You are here: / / John Greiner Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: April 21, 2026)
Who Can Apply:
- John Greiner grew up in a hardworking farming family, and later enhanced his education through the Navy, which equipped him for a thirty-year career maintaining facilities at East Syracuse Minoa School District.
- He recognized that education could open doors across various fields. While many now associate higher education with four years at a university, there are alternative paths for advancing one’s knowledge and qualifications. For students interested in hands-on experience or a shorter educational journey, trade schools can be an excellent choice. We define a trade as any career requiring special hands on skills typically learned through a trade school, apprenticeship, or vocational training rather than a four year college degree. Some examples include but are not limited to: construction, maintenance and repair, healthcare support, hair dressers, automotive mechanics.
- This scholarship aims to honor the memory of John Greiner by keeping his legacy alive and encouraging students to pursue as the trades as a profession.
- Any high school senior in Onondaga County, New York, may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they have a strong work ethic and if they’re pursuing a licensed position in the trades. However, applicants from East Syracuse Minoa Central High School are preferred.
Submission: To apply, tell us about your passion for the particular trade you are pursuing and how achieving the needed training and licensing will impact your life as well as others.
