A poster designed for Campbell University’s theater department by Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Visual Arts Program Director Dejan Mraović was selected for the 6th Creative Bridge, an international exhibition of design and visual arts.
The exhibition ran in early August in the exhibition hall of the Artists’ Union of Armenia in the center of Yerevan. Other featured art represented 16 countries, and the show presented a total of 220 design and architectural projects and decorative art pieces. The show as organized by the Korean Institute of Spatial Design from Seoul, South Korea and the International Academy of Design in Moscow, Russia.
The exhibition was supported by the Armenian Museum Tapan in Moscow, Russia and the Tourism Federation of Armenia in Yerevan.
Mraović’s poster promoted Waiting for Godot, performed by Campbell University theater students in spring of 2024. Author Samuel Beckett earned the Nobel Prize for literature in 1969.
“Since the whole play is set around a single bare tree, I arranged the whole composition around it,” Mraović said of his design. “To emphasize the feeling of isolation and abandonment, the title is visually separated from the other textual elements. I meticulously paid attention to kerning and leading aligning ‘n’ with ‘d’ and ‘g’ with ‘o’ respectfully, contributing to the overall sleekness of the composition. With various diagonal lines, I was able to create a dynamic and motion-filled theatrical poster. The colors are predominantly gray and brown representing the somber atmosphere of the play.”
