Who Can Apply:
- This scholarship aims to honor the life of Larry Jackstien by supporting young jazz pianists and inspiring them to have lasting impact in their communities through performances, education, and mentorship.
- Any high school senior, undergraduate student, graduate student or certification student in Utah who has experience playing jazz piano within a school, university, or community jazz program may apply for this scholarship.
Submission: To apply, tell us how jazz music has changed your life and how you plan to improve your community through jazz performance. Additionally, link two videos: one of a solo jazz piece or jazz medley of your choice with improvisation and one of you playing jazz piano at a concert. Submit a link to your videos as public YouTube links or as Google Drive links. Settings should be set to “public” or “anyone with the link can view.” If we can’t access your videos, your application won’t be considered. Awards will be given based on future community impact and goals, not on technical skill alone. All levels of jazz pianists encouraged to apply.
