Back to Campus: What Every Student Should Know About Title IX
Welcome back to Post University! As we begin the spring semester, it’s important to understand your rights and resources under Title IX. Post University is committed to providing a safe, supportive learning environment free from sexual and gender-based discrimination.
What is Title IX?
Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking in educational programs. At Post, we have zero tolerance for such misconduct and provide comprehensive support for all community members.
Know Your Rights and Resources
- Immediate Safety: If you’re in danger, call 911 or Campus Security immediately
- Confidential Support: Mental Health and Wellness Services (203-596-4585) and Health Services provide completely confidential counseling and medical care
- 24/7 Crisis Line: Post’s Crisis Hotline is available around the clock at (203) 228-8706

Being an Active Bystander
- As a member of our campus community, you play a crucial role in creating a safe environment:
- Recognize Warning Signs: Notice when someone appears uncomfortable, intoxicated, or in distress
- Intervene Safely: Create a distraction, directly address the situation if safe, or seek help from others
- Check In: Ask “Are you okay?” and listen without judgment
- Know When to Act: If someone cannot consent due to intoxication or incapacitation, step in
- Report Concerns: Share information with appropriate authorities when someone’s safety is at risk
Understanding Consent
Affirmative consent means clear, ongoing agreement to sexual activity. Consent cannot be given when someone is incapacitated by alcohol, drugs, or other substances. It can be withdrawn at any time, and past relationships don’t imply current consent.
Supportive Measures Available
Post provides various accommodations including housing changes, academic modifications, no-contact orders, counseling services, and safety escorts. These measures are available regardless of whether you file a formal complaint.
Remember: if you’ve experienced misconduct, it’s not your fault. Support is available, and you have options for how to proceed. Look for offices displaying the Sexual Misconduct Safe Place sticker – these staff members are specially trained to help.
Your safety and well-being matter. Together, we can maintain Post University as a place where everyone can thrive academically and personally.
