At a time when institutions are funneling millions of dollars into coaching salaries and name, image and likeness deals, calls to reform their runaway spending on athletics—football in particular—have come from as high up as the White House. Amid the spending spree, one man is doing his best to shine a light on what’s happening behind the scenes at athletic departments across the country, from the underappreciated expenses to which politicians are watching football games with university presidents and chancellors. The EEOC first requested information in July as part of its investigation into claims of antisemitism at the university. Penn refused to comply. Jumping Rocks/Universal Images Group/Getty Images A Pennsylvania district court judge ordered Tuesday that the University of Pennsylvania must comply with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s subpoena to produce the names and contact information of employees who are members of Jewish groups or organizations, a request that critics of the Trump administration have likened to Nazi Germany’s efforts to identify and document Jewish individuals. In his memorandum, Judge Gerald Pappert, an Obama appointee, outlined one caveat: Penn is…
My time at Ball State has exceeded my expectations. I was initially drawn here by the pre-medical program and the Health Professions Building. On my first visit, I fell in love with the campus and knew I wanted to make this my home. I also knew it would come with challenges, because I’d be arriving as an out-of-state student. Even though my hometown of Columbus, Ohio, isn’t far, I was the only person from my graduating class to come to Ball State—and I was stepping into an environment that felt completely unfamiliar. Making friends has never been easy for me,…
Ohio Dominican University failed to make a bond payment earlier this month, raising questions about the Catholic institution’s long-term financial stability, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The university missed its payment on a $50 million bond issued in 2018, according to a regulatory filing, but officials told the newspaper that they are working with bondholders to address the outstanding debt. While missed bond payments have preceded other college closures and are often a sign of fiscal distress, university officials dismissed doubts about its future. “There are no discussions about closing the university. Conversely, university trustees and administrators are working diligently to…

The legislative action comes as Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has made addressing literacy a priority for 2026, her last year in office. During her State of the State address last month, Whitmer detailed steps already underway to improve literacy and recommendations in her budget proposal for the coming fiscal year. Among them is…
Learning Mindset: Definition, Examples, And How To Build It In The Age Of AI A learning mindset is becoming a core capability for Instructional Designers working in fast-changing environments. Previously, workplace learning was mostly about gaining knowledge. Now, adaptability is more important, and being able to learn, unlearn, and relearn is valued over just having static expertise. Because of these changes, the idea of a learning mindset is becoming more popular in L&D and HR. As AI changes jobs and workflows, skills become outdated more quickly. Therefore, Instructional Designers are now expected not only to create content but to design…
