Dr. Michael Alfano serves as the dean of the John P. Burke School of Public Service and Education at Post University. Prior to arriving at Post, he served as dean of the Farrington College of Education and Human Development at Sacred Heart University from 2018-23. In that role he was responsible for the creation and launch of numerous new and reconceptualized campus-based, hybrid and online programs at the undergraduate, graduate, certificate and doctoral levels. Under his leadership the College’s grant, research and enrollment productivity all increased. In 2021, he accepted a concurrent appointment as Vice-Provost for Strategic Partnerships and then in 2022 Dr. Alfano became Sacred Heart University’s Vice President for Strategic Initiatives. In that role Dr. Alfano provided collaborative leadership for the planning, implementation and surveillance of key institution-wide priorities and goals, including the management of Sacred Heart’s Discovery Science Center and Planetarium and Notre Dame Prep at Sacred Heart. During the 2023-2024 academic year Dr. Alfano was selected as an American Council on Education Fellow and completed his fellowship at Villanova University.
Dr. Alfano formerly served as dean of the School of Education and Professional Studies at Central Connecticut State University, professor and chair of the Department of Special Education and Reading at Southern Connecticut State University and as executive director of teacher education at the University of Connecticut.
