Who Can Apply:
- Dr. Michael Paglia and his wife, Dr. Albina Claps-Paglia were distinguished doctors who practiced medicine in New York City and Staten Island for over 40 years.
- Dr. Michael Paglia was a surgical oncologist who passed away in June of 2024. He was a compassionate physician, a dedicated father, and a beloved friend to everyone who knew him.
- Dr. Albina Claps-Paglia served as a pediatric cardiologist. A beloved mother, Abbie had a fierce intellect and unwavering drive; she not only excelled in her field but also shattered the glass ceiling that often restricts women in medicine. She passed away in January of 2018.
- The Paglia’s had philanthropic spirits and always supported others, encouraging them to pursue their goals and dreams. Having motivation and help from others is critical for many students who are starting out on their academic journeys. Those with limited financial resources and a minimal understanding of the higher education world are often particularly in need of mentorship.
- This scholarship aims to honor the life of Dr. Michael Paglia and Dr. Albina Claps-Paglia by helping students overcome the financial barriers they face so they can pursue their ambitions and influence the field of medicine.
- Any first-generation undergraduate or graduate student with lower socioeconomic status may apply for this scholarship if they’re pursuing a degree in the field of healthcare.
