You”ve built the vision. You’ve mapped the curriculum. You’ve coached the teachers. But how do you tie it all together into a system that actually moves the needle?
That’s the question I set out to answer when I wrote Impact Standards: A Guide for Digital Learning Leaders and Instructional Coaches — and today, the updated edition is officially available.
Whether you’re picking it up for the first time or revisiting it with fresh eyes, this relaunch is designed to help you build a district-wide digital learning system that works — from vision to curriculum to coaching to culture.

Why I Wrote This Book
After years of working as an instructional coach and digital learning leader, I kept running into the same pattern: talented educators with great ideas but no framework to connect those ideas to district goals, standards, or sustainable systems.
Initiatives that start strong but lose momentum. Coaching programs that react instead of lead. Technology that gets adopted — but never truly integrated.
Impact Standards is my answer to that gap. It’s a practical roadmap — not theory — for:
- Creating a district-wide vision for digital learning that actually gets buy-in
- Designing curriculum that weaves technology into instruction (not bolted on top)
- Building and supporting an instructional coaching team that focuses on people, not just tools
- Measuring and showcasing the impact of your digital learning initiatives
What’s Inside the Book
The book is organized into four parts that build on each other — the way real implementation works:
Part 1: Creating a Vision for Classroom Instruction
What is digital learning, really? How do you create a shared vision across an entire district? How do the ISTE Standards fit in? And how do you build a strategic plan that doesn’t collect dust on a shelf? Chapters 1–4 walk you through it.
Part 2: Designing a Curriculum to Support Digital Learning
Vision without curriculum is just a wish. Chapters 5–8 cover what a digital learning curriculum looks like, how to build it into what you’re already doing, how to create vertical alignment from K–12, and how to map it all out.
Part 3: Supporting Digital Learning through Instructional Coaching
This is the heart of the book. Chapters 9–15 cover everything from what an instructional coach actually does to building relationships, coaching people (not technology), scaling your team, supporting your community, and defining the role for long-term success.
Part 4: Making an Impact in the Classroom and Community
What does a successful digital learning culture look like? Chapter 16 defines it. Chapter 17 shares real stories from instructional coaches and digital learning leaders in the field.
